Nicasio Valley Cheese Company Ranch
The Lafranchi Ranch consists of 1,150 certified organic acres.
Currently we milk about 400 cows. Approximately 75 percent of the herd produces organic milk, with the rest producing conventional milk.

We began the organic conversion in 2006.
A few points about our operation.

» We are a pasture-based ranch. This means roughly 120 days per year our milk cows derive a large part of their diet from the grass growing in our pastures. We utilize rotational grazing methods to insure the grass is used to the greatest benefit.
» We use our own recycled manure to fertilize our fields. This past summer Marin Sun Farms rented a pasture to raise free range chickens. The chickens did a great job of eating bugs and aerating the fields.
» We had been researching the organic option for a number of years. When Clover-Stornetta approached us about becoming a shipper, we made the decision to join their fine organization.
» Clover-Stornetta has the highest milk quality standards in the dairy industry. We are honored to be a part of this select group.
